Aside from the annual festivals that fill most of the calendar outside from the summer months, there isn’t much being added in the immediate future at Epcot. Walt Disney World has announced that IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth will be retired and replaced at the end of Summer 2019, with Epcot Forever debuting the next day on October 1, 2019. That show will run for a year before the permanent replacement begins.
In January 2020 as part of the 2020 Epcot International Festival of the Arts several new movies will debut at Epcot. This includes Awesome Planet
in the Land pavilion, the new Seamless Circle-Vision 360 film for
China, Beauty and the Beast Sing-a-long in France, and new Circle-Vision
360 film for the Canada Pavilion.
In Future World, the ‘Space Restaurant’ is being built adjacent to
Mission: Space and will open in Late 2019. An aesthetic redesign known
as the “Central Spine Redesign” will occur of Future World that could
result in a sea of construction walls at the front of the park. Work has
already started to remove the old Leave a Legacy tombstones.
Additionally, the Play Pavilion will replace Wonders of Life in time for Walt Disney World’s 50th Anniversary.
We’d anticipate this new pavilion will open nearly simultaneously with
Guardians of the Galaxy coaster, as they’re adjacent to one another.
Speaking of which, the biggest announced additions for Epcot are the gigantic Guardians of the Galaxy hybrid roller coaster, which will debut in Future World sometime in 2021. Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, a family-friendly Ratatouille trackless dark ride will open in an expansion of World Showcase’s France pavilion, with an internal target date of Spring 2020.
Before that, a new Signature Restaurant that is currently under
construction in the Japan pavilion will debut. It will be called
Takumi-Tei and is set to open in Summer 2019. The restaurant will
provide guests a dining experience inspired by the natural beauty of
Japan, and will serve wagyu beef and a tasting menu that sounds a lot
like kaiseki.
There are also credible rumors that two new countries will be added to World Showcase, among countless other rumors. Epcot is the next ‘big’ re-imagining for Walt Disney World after the expansion at Disney’s Hollywood Studios is finished, with Disney planning to invest over $1 billion into Epcot. Some of this work is expected to take until 2023, meaning it all will not be done in time for Walt Disney World’s 50th Anniversary in 2021.
