Here’s the latest on I-Drive’s future polercoaster, Starflyer and more

Three of International Drive’s high-flying attractions are getting closer to bringing more thrills to the tourism corridor.

Parts of the 501-foot Skyscraper polercoaster at the $460 million Skyplex entertainment center are already being built, said Joshua Wallack, developer of the project who also owns and operates Mango’s Tropical Cafe Orlando and is building the Hollywood Plaza parking garage center.

Also in the mix is the 425-foot Starflyer attraction planned for the Vue at 360 from Unicorp National Developments’ Chuck Whittall. The project was approved by Orange County leaders last year and is set to break ground in October, said Whittall.

In addition, Whittall said his helipad attraction concept for I-Drive 360, which includes building a helitour facility on the roof of the existing parking garage, is set to open by summer. “The goal is to be flying the helicopters in July,” he said,

The three attractions are the latest ventures trying to change the International Drive and Sand Lake Road intersection into the tourism corridors premiere entertainment district. I-Drive welcomes more than 5 million visitors already and the new attractions can create a bigger draw for the businesses along the corridor.  News source: www.bizjournals.com
